Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico blends Swiss/French/Austrian founders' roots with the traditions and customs of the local Hispanic and Pueblo Indian cultures. Home of extreme skiing in the U.S., Taos' terrain was first tamed by founder Ernie Blake and his wife Rhonda. Taos features 1294 skiable acres, made up of 111 trails which are serviced by 13 lifts. Lift-serviced peak elevation is 11,819 with a vertical drop of 2,612. However, you can extend those numbers to 12,481 and 3,274 with only a small hike. The resort receives over 300 inches of snowfall annually. Taos is not just a resort for experts, there is plenty of beginner and intermediate runs, and one of the nation's best ski schools. Its hike-to terrain is world-famous, but don't come to party all night - there is very little nightlife. Taos used to be skiers' only, but no more. Snowboarders were welcomed beginning in 2008.

Lift tickets start at $66 per day for adults. They offer multi day discounts and heavily discounted tickets for beginners.
