Whiteface Mountain in New York opened back in 1958 and is dedicated to the 10th Mountain Division. Whiteface is located near Lake Placid and was the skiing venue of the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Whiteface is the fifth tallest mountain in New York at 4,867 feet and the longest vertical drop in the east of 3,430 feet. The resort is serviced by 11 lifts including one gondola, one high-speed quad, one fixed-grip quad, one triple, five doubles, and one Magic Carpet. There are 225 skiable acres with a longest run of 1.4 miles. The average snowfall is around 168 inches. Whiteface is known for its challenging terrain and conditions, earning it the nickname "Iceface".
